A Survey on Mobile Road Side Units in VANETs

The number of vehicles on the road increases daily, causing many fatal accidents and wasting much time for average commuter every day due to congestion. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) were introduced overcome these issues by enabling vehicle-to-vehicle communication vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. prime challenge in VANETs is necessity very low delays, especially safety-related applications high mobility nature vehicles. VANET architecture introduces a network component, Road Side Unit (RSU), meet required delay limitations. Even though RSU critical component VANETs, as expected, RSUs not deployed throughout world because their investment cost. As solution, idea mobile (mRSU) was introduced, and, ever since, several techniques mRSU deployment strategies have been proposed. In this survey, we first analyze importance with real-world data incorporating new 5G standard. Then, investigate research done areas exploit pros cons each strategy. Finally, also discuss future directions mRSU, explain challenges connected trends.
